Samsung Smart TVs to Get System Updates for Up to 7 Years

Samsung has announced that it will provide Tizen updates for seven years for its AI-powered smart TVs. The move is aimed at strengthening its position in the market and facing increasing competition from Chinese companies such as Hisense and TCL.

The announcement came last week at the company's headquarters, and will include TVs that will launch in March 2024 and some models launched in 2023.

This extension in system updates is significant compared to the previous update policy that focused on fixing bugs without upgrading the system.

Some research showed that Samsung's share of the global TV market fell to about 29% in the first half of this year, down more than 2% from last year, while TCL and Hisense's share increased to 12.1% and 10%, respectively.

These free updates will give Samsung a leg up on its Chinese rivals, said Young Seok-yoon, head of Samsung’s display division. Samsung has not yet specified which models will receive the updates, but has confirmed its commitment to long-term support for its products.

It is worth noting that last January, Samsung announced the introduction of Seven years of updates for the Galaxy S24 seriesAt the same time, LG revealed that it will provide five years of webOS updates.
