a new single app for all your accounts, how to get it

Long-awaited, the unification of Teams applications is now effective! Indeed, Microsoft has announced the deployment of “Unified Teams”, a single application – translated into a simple update for current users – which allows you to associate your personal, professional and/or educational accounts.

One single Teams app for all accounts

It's the end of an era that will probably not be regretted! Teams users will no longer have to download two applications to use the collaborative and videoconferencing solution with their personal and professional accounts. “Microsoft Teams has transformed the way we connect and collaborate at work and in our lives. Today, there are two Teams apps: one for work or education and one for personal use.”recalls the group in a blog post.

Today, we’re announcing that the unified Microsoft Teams experience is now available. Teams is now a single app, allowing users to seamlessly switch between multiple personal and work account types.

With this single application, which comes as an update for existing users, Microsoft is closing a complicated chapter. In Windows 11, Teams was integrated into the taskbar, but only for personal accounts, before this integration was removed after a year, forcing you to download two separate applications and make sure to launch the right version before a call or meeting.

In this new unique application, it is therefore possible to associate several accounts. To do this, simply select your profile picture at the top right of your screen, where you can add an account or select a different one. “Work, personal, and education accounts will open in side-by-side windows from a single Teams app”Microsoft specifies (see cover image). In addition, the Redmond firm simplifies the choice of account when joining a meeting. Indeed, you will be offered to change accounts, or not, before connecting to a videoconference, or to join it as a guest.

Whether you're joining a call to connect with a client or discussing your school's fall fundraiser, simply select your preferred account when you join the meeting.

Finally, improvements have been made to notifications, so you can quickly know which account you are being contacted on or have appointments scheduled, for example. The single Teams app is available for Windows 10 and 11, as well as for Mac users. For those who have already installed the app, a simple update will take place automatically, “as part of the usual update cycle”. For others, it is possible to download this new Teams directly on the Microsoft official website.
