With a $181 million deal, Samsung strengthens its ambitions in the world of humanoid robots

Samsung announced an increase in its investments in the South Korean company Rainbow Robotics, which specializes in robotics, as it raised its stake to 35%, becoming the largest shareholder in the company.

Rainbow Robotics was founded in 2011 by researchers from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), developers of South Korea's first bipedal humanoid robot “Hubo”.

Samsung plans to establish a cooperation council with Rainbow Robotics to strengthen its position in the global robotics industry, focusing on developing future technologies and assessing market needs.

The company has appointed Dr. Jun-Ho Oh, founding member of Rainbow Robotics, as an advisor and head of the new Future of Robotics Office. The company has previously showcased various robotic models such as EX1, Bot Fit, and Ballie, with plans to market a variety of robots in the future.
