Mozilla Foundation lays off 30% of its employees

The Mozilla Foundation has announced severe staff cuts, laying off 30% of its staff and completely eliminating its advocacy and global programs departments. This came in an internal message sent by Nabiha Sayed, Executive Director of the Foundation, and Mozilla confirmed these cuts press release.

“The Mozilla Foundation is realigning its teams to increase agility and impact while accelerating our work to ensure a more open and equitable technology future for all,” said Brandon Burman, Vice President of Communications at Mozilla. “Unfortunately, this means ending some of the work we have done historically and eliminating associated roles for greater focus in the future.”

Although the independent advocacy department has been terminated, Mozilla has confirmed its commitment to this work. Borman added: “We want to make clear that restructuring has not eliminated advocacy; On the contrary, advocacy remains a core principle of the Mozilla Foundation’s work, and we are in the process of reviewing our approach to it.”

The Mozilla Foundation is the non-profit arm of the larger Mozilla Corporation Mozilla company Responsible for Firefox browser. In February, the organization announced the layoff of about 60 employees, most of them from the product development team.
