Next State of Play episode could be dedicated to revealing the PS5 Pro – report

The upcoming State of Play event could be big and will be dedicated to revealing the PS5 Pro and announcing the specifications, shape, price, and release date.

Sony's only window to the PlayStation audience has been the State of Play event, and it has been following this approach for more than two years. During this period, and perhaps more, Sony has avoided holding large events such as the Showcase event and settled for the pre-recorded State of Play event, which is easier, more interactive, and closer to the audience.

However, it seems that Sony wants to follow the approach of Nintendo, which abandoned the Showcase events and settled for the Nintendo Direct event, through which it reveals all its games and updates for its platforms.

If Sony wants to follow the same approach, this means that from now on, the State of Play event will be the main event through which Sony will reveal its upcoming titles and projects for PlayStation platforms.

What can be proven is that if we go back in history since 2019, Sony did not reveal any new first-party titles. It was content to share updates on third-party titles and its new products announced through pre-recorded State of Play episodes. While we thought that the Playstation Showcase event was dedicated to revealing new console titles, that changed last year!!

Sony revealed a new game, Astro Bot, for the first time during the State of Play episode, and this was a surprise that changed our view of the value of the event, which became greater than we expected. But will Sony continue with this approach and consider the event as an alternative to the Showcase?

The next event that we have information from unofficial sources that it will be the State of Play will be broadcast at the end of next September. If first-party titles are revealed or the PS5 Pro is revealed during it, this will be a major milestone that what we have presented in this report is correct and that Sony is indeed trying to make the State of Play the main and only event to reveal its projects through it.

However, the Showcase event remains important for Sony, especially to reveal its giant projects such as the PlayStation 6. We expect this to happen in the long term and may be dedicated only to revealing completely new home devices, while during the life of the generation, Sony will rely on the State of Play event to reveal games and upgrades for the platforms, such as revealing the PS5 Pro and its accessories, as it did with the PS Portal and the DualSense Edge professional controller, etc.

The next State of Play event is expected to be held at the end of September, according to information we have obtained from unofficial sources. But do you think Sony will actually rely on the State of Play event to be the main platform to reveal its new projects during each generation?
