Samsung is targeting a 5,500 mAh battery in upcoming Galaxy phones
◾ New manufacturing technology to increase battery capacity by 10%
◾ Using the “stacking” method in producing small batteries
◾ M production line in Malaysia works on new technology
Samsung is studying a new manufacturing technology for batteries that may increase their capacity to 5,500 mAh in Galaxy phones, compared to current batteries with a capacity of 5,000 mAh and 45 watt charging.
According to the site TheElecSamsung SDI plans to use the stacking method in the production of small batteries, enabling increased capacity while maintaining battery size and reliability. The new technology requires special equipment to create tabs of positive and negative materials and stack them precisely.
This development comes in response to the increasing demand for improving battery performance, especially with competing Chinese companies using higher capacity batteries. However, the commercial application of this technology depends on the decision of the MX division responsible for designing and manufacturing mobile devices at Samsung.
