Samsung reveals its future plans for extended reality and smartphones
Samsung revealed its expectations for 2025 in its new earnings report, indicating its plans to launch an extended reality (XR) device that aims to “improve the interconnection between products and enhance the user experience in the Galaxy system.”
The company first announced its work on this device during the Galaxy S23 Unpacked event last year.
The extended reality device will run on a custom Android system designed by Google for wearable displays, and will be powered by a Qualcomm processor. Despite previous reports that indicated the launch of a version for developers in October 2024, this did not materialize, and Samsung did not provide more precise details about the launch date in its earnings report.
During the company's earnings call, Jaejoon Kim, Samsung's executive vice president, hinted at the possibility Developing a foldable phone at a lower price. Kim explained that the company is studying “ways to reduce purchasing barriers” due to the high levels of user satisfaction with its foldable phones.
This comes despite a Samsung official previously denying rumors about developing a cheaper version of the Galaxy Z Fold, raising the question of whether the company has changed its mind or is just working on a less expensive version of the Z Flip.
Kim also revealed that Samsung is “preparing a new form factor” for users “looking for a more powerful and innovative mobility experience,” though he may also be referring to the wearable extended reality device. The company confirmed its plans to launch the S25 series of phones next year, focusing on the advantages of artificial intelligence, and improving artificial intelligence applications designed specifically for foldable phones.
