iPhone 16, AirPods, Apple Watch… what new features can we expect?
It's official. Apple's traditional back-to-school keynote will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 7 p.m. (French time). The Californian company has started sending invitations to the press by email. The latest rumors suggested the date was September 10, but the debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris is scheduled for the same day. The keynote is titled “It's glowtime”, a possible nod to Apple Intelligence.
During this live event, Apple will officially unveil all the variations of the iPhone 16 and announce the deployment date of the iOS 18 operating system, which equips these devices. Other innovations could be presented at this occasion, such as a special edition for the Apple Watch, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.
Apple Keynote: What's new to expect
Introducing the iPhone 16
As expected, Apple will present the four versions of its flagship model: the iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 Plus, the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
While retaining a design similar to the iPhone 15, the more affordable models (iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus) should, according to the latest rumors, benefit from the Action button previously exclusive to the Pro and Pro Max models, replacing the switch for activating and deactivating Silent mode. As a reminder, this button allows you to quickly perform an action on the device (open the camera, activate the mode Concentrationetc.). These two models will also benefit from notable improvements to the camera and extended battery life. As for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models, they should benefit, among other things, from a larger screen size (6.9 inches versus 6.3 inches) and a new telephoto lens. These four models could also be equipped with a Capture button offering new possibilities for shooting.
All versions of the iPhone 16, which could be marketed from September 20, 2024 according to Bloombergwill be equipped with a new A18 chip, which will facilitate the use of Apple Intelligence, the generative AI designed by the company.
A new AirPods model?
Still according to Bloomberga new generation of headphones could be presented during this back-to-school keynote. The AirPods 4 would be offered in two versions: a more accessible version and another equipped with noise reduction technology. The launch of this new generation could put an end to the marketing of the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3.
A special edition for the Apple Watch?
Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, Apple's smartwatch could benefit from a special edition. But little information has circulated about the product, which could be called Watch X, or Watch Series 10. Except that it should have a larger screen and a few additional features.
iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia rollout date announced
As every year, Apple will take advantage of the event to unveil the deployment date of its next operating systems for iPhone, iPad and Mac. These versions, currently in beta, should be generally accessible a few days after the event. In theory, they should benefit – from the deployment – from many features powered by artificial intelligence. But it is possible that Apple, marked closely by Brussels, will delay the launch of these functions in the countries of the European Union.
How to watch the Apple keynote live?
Every year, the Californian firm ensures the retransmission of the event. The keynote is broadcast on the brand's websiteits YouTube channel as well as on Apple TV. The live will begin on September 9 at 7 p.m. (French time).
